New Mexico has a rich history of arts and crafts traditions. Today, thousands of artists work in ancient and contemporary styles of art using every imaginable medium. While New Mexico' creative entrepreneurs are rich in talent, too often they struggle financially. Frequently, the only barrier to making a better living is gaining access to the marketplace.

That is where New Mexico Creates comes in. This innovative program promotes and strengthens the creative entrepreneurs of New Mexico by providing links to the vibrant arts market via the Museum of New Mexico Foundation Shops' four locations and this extensive online store. In addition, the NewMexicoCreates program offers training seminars to artists on marketing, licensing, pricing, and small business loans. The Museum of New Mexico Foundation Shops

The Museum of New Mexico Foundation Shops (MNMF Shops) is the retail operation of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation. The MNMF Shops are located in four museums in Santa Fe, New Mexico: Palace of the Governors, New Mexico Museum of Art, Museum of International Folk Art and Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. The shops have operated in the Museum of New Mexico since 1965 when they started operations in a small corner in the basement of the Museum of Fine Arts.

The MNMF Shops, as part of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, contribute all net income derived from the sale of merchandise in the shops, back to the MNM Foundation for distribution to the four museums in which they operate. These distributions take the form of block grants from the MNM Foundation back to the museums for education and acquisititions.

The Foundation is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the four museums and six historical state monuments that comprise the Museum of New Mexico.
